Climbers from across the world are drawn to the spectacular natural beauty of the Himalayas, there is no place like Nepal as far as experiencing mountaineering is concerned. Unfortunately the forces that created these mountains also have the power to destroy them, nature has its own way of completing the circle of life. A violent earthquake hit Nepal on April 25th 2015, triggering a series of deadly land slides and avalanches. Climbers and trekkers were stuck in remote areas in the mountains, life and death was a matter of chance.
“It was a perfect day to climb with sunshine and the right chill of excitement”. Dr. Harshada was trekking high up on the Langtang trekking trail, a popular trekking destination near Kathmandu with a dear friend. They were mid way towards their final checkpoint, when the earth shook beneath their feet . The mighty himalayan range was suddenly transformed into an intimidating roar due to a massive avalanche. Dr. Harshada had shattered her pelvis, she was dragged behind a huge rock by her trek guide until he returned with the rescue team. Initially she was calm but eventually the fear of uncertainty started gripping her. She lost her friend and colleague Dr. Vipul Chavda in this unfortunate incidence, it took almost 24 hours before a helicopter rescued her. Dr. Harshada Rajadhyaksha survived the earthquake but something within has changed, she isn’t intimidated by fear. She is on a long road to recovery, every step is small and requires effort. Last 18 months have dared her physically and emotionally but she is committed towards challenging her fears and turning them inside out.
